Generally speaking, I don’t seek out ancient wisdom and philosophy from 30-year-olds. However, Ryan Holiday is something of a prodigy with half a dozen books under his belt. This one is a very articulate and thorough introduction to the philosophy of Stoicism. You can read more about Ryan Holiday on his Amazon Author Page.

If you’ve ever read Marcus Aurelius or Epictetus or Seneca in their various translations, you know that they can be somewhat tedious. Holiday has distilled their works down to their essence and made them digestible for the modern era. He has gone a step further by explaining how many of the great leaders of contemporary society have embraced and applied Stoicism to their lives.

Stoicism is a wonderful philosophy for stroke survivors. We’ve all got a huge obstacle in front of us. We can use the experience to grow as human beings or be defeated by it. If you are new to Stoicism, then this book will give you an entirely new way of looking at things. Especially, things that you find difficult –  like a stroke. It will help you to handle not only your handicap but also the difficult people in your life.
